Young man buys old school bus and transforms it into gorgeous modern studio apartment on wheel
The Covid-19 pandemic took a lot of people off guard and disrupted many people’s plans, and this was especially true for one young man.
Craig Gordnier, a 28-year-old United States Coast Guard veteran found himself in a very unhappy situation.
After his attempt at starting a business failed, Craig found himself living back at home with his parents and sleeping on their couch.
For months the young man looked for a job but was not able to find anything, something many people could relate to.
He sat down one day and thought about how he wanted his life to go and knew he’d have to take some big steps to end up where he wanted.
Craig knew that his plan was to one day retire from the workforce and purchase an RV in order to drive around the continental U.S., he wanted to do this at the age of 65.
The more he thought about it however, the more he realized that he didn’t have to wait, he could do that now.
So, with the support of his family, Craig purchased a 1999 Bluebird TC 2000 school bus.
He bought the bus and immediately started working on it and, with the help of his father, grandfather, and a few good friends, the bus was quickly transformed into a home.
When first stepping foot into the bus you would never know it had been gutted and renovated as Craig decided to keep the driver section completely in tact, an homage to the bus’s origins.
The rest of the bus however, is cozy and modern and features all the amenities anyone could ever need.
Right behind the drivers seat is a beautiful kitchen area featuring a 3 burner stove, stainless steel refrigerator, and marbled countertops.
One of Craig’s very favorite features of the whole build is a high tech, stainless steel espresso maker that he uses every morning.
Across from the kitchen is a hinge table that can be set up to sit at, or folded down to allow for extra room.
This is another special feature for Craig as it is the same table he built as his final class project in his high school woodshop class.
Beside that is a couch that is able to fold out into a double bed so that he can have guests stay overnight if they wish.
Another special feature of the bus is an electric fireplace that can change color.
Beside the fireplace is an electronic tankless water heater where Craig can measure his water usage as well as control the temperature.
The very back of the bus is split into two sections, a bedroom and a bathroom.
With skylights above the 2 sections, Craig can look out at the beauty of the stars and sky from both his bed and his shower.
On the exterior of the bus, Craig build a custom motorcycle platform so he can transfer his bike along with him wherever he travels.
He also built a roof deck that he can sit on to enjoy the sun, this is also where his solar panels reside.
All in all, Craig was able to build a beautiful home for himself doing something he had always wanted to do…explore.
