Young pilot earns praise for way she handles being called a “flight attendant”

It has been years since women have tried to break barriers in an effort to be treated as equals to men. However, there are still a lot of jobs dominated by men.

According to the 2019 Bureau of Labor Statistics databook, only 5.2% of US aircraft pilots and flight engineers are female.

Women have only been part of aviation since the 18th century.

But you know the times. They sure are a-changing, and many women participate in male-dominated arenas.

Meet Sabrina Johnson.

She started learning how to become a pilot at a young age.

During her high school years, Sabrina enrolled in training courses that made it possible for her to have her first solo flight.

She took her first solo flight at 16.

Her secret? Having a supportive family.

Sabrina’s family did not stand in her way of being a pilot and instead helped her achieve her dreams which is why she already has eight years of flight experience at her young age.

They also helped her get the knowledge she needed to pursue her chosen path.

She also has a lot to give up.

During her college days, Sabrina could not attend parties to focus on her dreams and goals.

She studied hard and did extra flying hours to make her love for flying a profession.

Even vacation days were turned to study time to achieve her career at the earliest possible time.

No wonder she achieved being a flight instructor in such a short time.

Her passion and determination made it possible for her to become a pilot.

Sabrina was able to graduate and become a flight instructor at the age of 20. She also had her license to fly afterward.

Now, she’s breaking barriers.

The young pilot had her first job immediately after receiving permission to operate an aircraft.

That is indeed a reflection of perseverance and love for her craft.

Her experience is exceptional.

The 22-year-old flying enthusiast had eight years of flight experience, which is not ordinary for a young woman like her.

Being in the aviation field is not usual for people like Sabrina, with years ahead of her yet capable of delivering a job equal in skill and quality to those experienced men in the same profession.

Yet, she still face obstacles.

Mostly cultural ones. Her looks, age, and gender are obstacles to recognizing her as a professional.

She was always mistaken for a flight attendant despite the difference in their uniforms.
