“We were trying to give Grady his medicine and he was taking them just fine,” Joe Chronister, the baby’s father, recalled. “Right towards the end, he started choking.”

Joe and his wife called 911 after their baby started to turn purple due to insufficient oxygen. The policeman, who is also a parent, said that he prayed the entire way there.

He wanted nothing but to save the baby.

“A normal day went into a chaotic day in a matter of seconds,” he shared. “When a family is depending on your like that, you know the pressure hits.”

The infant was having trouble breathing which made his grandparents and parents anxious and helpless. Hubbard got on the scene and started rescuing right away. He had dealt with a similar issue with his daughter in the past, so he knew how to manage this one.

The cop quickly started to do his thing.

“We were trying everything and it seemed like he knew exactly what to do,” Joe recounted. But Officer Cody isn’t one to take all the credit. He said he was able to get help from the heavens.

“Pretty much for the Lord to be on my side on this one,” the humble policeman remarked.

He also shared how he handles calls like this.

“Whenever I rolled up on this call, anytime I deal with something that involves a child, I think about how the parents would want me to treat the child as if it was mine,” he shared.

Hubbard’s bodycam recorded the whole rescue operation. He may be seen in the video clapping the infant on the back and squeezing from beneath his armpits. In the end, these techniques were successful in dislodging the medication.

To everyone’s relief, Grady began to cry.

“He saved my baby’s life,” Joe said in immense gratitude to Office Cody. Hubbard left the critical situation and turned off his camera before getting into his vehicle. The cop let all of his emotions out as he tried to process what had just happened.

Indeed, he was able to save a baby’s child and Grady’s family will definitely remember him and his good deeds for the rest of their lives.

“I started just kind of bawling, you know, it felt good to see how that turned out,” he explained. “Mentally, I just broke down. I was crying, but it was happy tears.”

This life-changing experience could’ve turned for the worse if Officer Cody didn’t know how to handle intense pressure exquisitely. It was a scary experience but he pulled through. He’s indeed a true hero. Kudos to you, officer!
