‘Tis the season for merriment and joy!

Although sadly, the holidays may look vastly different for many of us this year. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s been an overwhelming lesson not to tempt fate – because she can and will answer. But even despite having to navigate a strange landscape this year, many are not letting that deter them from joining in the usual reindeer games. The show can go on, and the holiday cheer will prevail!

Take this men’s singing group, for instance. They call themselves Straight No Chaser.

The nine-piece group originated in 1996 at Indiana University. The professional acapella group has won over the hearts of many with their impressive vocal skills as well as their light-hearted humor. In 1998 a video of them performing “The 12 Days of Chri+stmas” went viral, and earned them millions and millions of views, a giant feat at the time (the video now has over 24 million views). Their popularity launched them into a five-album record deal.

Their video for “The Christmas Can-Can” is sure to have you doubled over and rolling on the floor with laughter.

The humorous lyrics offer a lightness to anyone who gives it a listen. Not since the 1979 hit “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” has a humorous Christmas song brought so many people to tears of comedy.

As an added bonus, the personalities of the group’s members are just as funny as the song itself.

This hilarious song was written by group member Walter Chase. The song has become so popular that the group has made a website solely dedicated to it. On the website, they reveal the song’s purpose:

“The Christmas Can-Can comically portrays the phenomenon of the holiday season arriving earlier and earlier every year. The song also pays homage to Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, describing the commercial imbalance of their celebrations, in comparison to Christmas.”

If you’re wondering where the Can-Can fits in, have no fear, these guys actually attempt their own kick-line! As if they couldn’t induce enough laughter.

Of course, we all adore the holiday season, but there’s also an element of absurdity that accompanies it. Whether it’s getting run over in the middle of the shopping mall by fervent shoppers, or friends putting up the Christmas tree before Halloween – something is bound to give us a little tick. Straight No Chaser shines by addressing these holiday quirks while still keeping the Christmas spirit intact. It’s equal parts impressive and funny.

“The Christmas Can-Can” is sure to have you doubled over in fits of laughter with its brutal honesty. Be sure to check it out for yourself in the video linked below!
