Save money by growing these 12 fruits and veggies from home – starting from just the scraps
If you’ve ever been interested in growing your own food, you’re not alone. More and more people are looking to do so. After all, it’s more affordable than constantly buying food and you know exactly where you’re getting yours from.

1) Tomatoes
Tomatoes are some of the most used fruits. They’re used in many dishes and can be cooked in several ways. If you’re interested in growing your own, all you need are the tomatoes that you already have. Just save the seeds from your current tomatoes and plant them. When it decomposes, it will help the seeds grow.
2) Potatoes
Potatoes are so easy to grow, they grow on their own. Next time you accidentally leave your potatoes sitting in the house, you’ll see what we mean! To willingly plant your own, pop them in a jar or bury them in soil. From there, you’ll see their roots growing followed by the potatoes.
3) Peaches
To regrow peaches, just remove the pit, dry it (thoroughly), and replant it in soil that is rich in nutrients. Be aware that you’ll get a small peach tree that you’ll be able to harvest fruit from. How exciting!
4) Celery
Celery is a great vegetable to have in your arsenal. It’s great in soups, roasts, and much more. The good news is that planting it is super easy. After cutting off the parts that you don’t use, plant the ends in some moist soil. That’s it!
5) Romaine lettuce
Romaine lettuce is the key to plenty of great salads and sandwiches. It’s also easy to grow. Instead of tossing the center portion of the lettuce, plant it in soil and just wait for the leaves to come through. Also, it can be grown inside or outside.
6) Garlic
Garlic is a great herb to grow on your own. Not only is it delicious in meals but it has many medicinal properties that help with everything from your immune system to blood pressure. In addition, it’s super easy to plant. Rather than tossing out your unused or old garlic, plant them instead.
7) Basil
If you have basil, you can regrow it. To do so, leave it in a pot to regrow. Just cut it below the leaf node, remove the leaves (make sure to cut the piece that has not flowered yet), then place in a glass of water.
8) Cilantro
Cilantro can be grown in your pot or in your garden. Which is great news if you love this versatile ingredient. Cilantro can be used in just about any dish particularly in dips like salsa and ranch. Instead of tossing out the plant that you don’t use, give it time to regrow.
9) Peppers
To grow peppers, collect the seeds from those that you already have and then clean and dry them. Next, replant them. Peppers can even be grown in small containers which makes them perfect for small gardens and apartments.
10) Carrots
For these, just cut the top off and plant them. They will grow into new carrots! These grow best in the ground or in deep pots or planters.
11) Ginger root
Ginger root is often overlooked but shouldn’t be. Why? Because it can be used for many purposes. From spices to folk medicine, you’ll likely find a use for it. Since it is a root, all you have to do is put the remaining plant in soil.
12) Cucumbers
Since there are so many seeds in cucumbers, they’re super easy to grow! Just scrap the seeds from one into a pot or garden or put the unused portion of it into the soil. A vine with cucumbers will eventually appear.
