Who doesn’t love to travel! There is something exhilarating about going to a place you have never been, immersing yourself in the culture, and eating a ton of new foods! When traveling to different countries, however, we always need to be mindful of the various laws they have. Some of those laws don’t always make sense!

1. Belgium

We all love to listen to music. While not all of us have a musical ear, it seems that people in Belgium do! In Belgium, its illegal to play off-key while performing on the streets.

2. Switzerland

If there is a sport Switzerland is known for, it’s skiing. Don’t get too artsy when hitting the slopes, however! Reciting any poetry while skiing is highly illegal. Keep those prosaic thoughts to yourself!

3. Australia

Apparently, Australia has some weird laws. None seem to be weirder than this one: No hot pink pants on Sunday afternoon! If you are going to a yoga class, you are just out of luck. Better to be plain than in jail, right?

4. Indonesia

Now THIS is a law I can get behind. In Indonesia, it is against the law to not flush the toilet in a public bathroom. What’s even funnier is they are even prone to random police checks!

5. Singapore

We all love a good piece of gum. If you are in Singapore, be careful! They are very serious about their clean streets. If you are caught with gum, you can be beaten in the streets with a cane (ouch).

6. Hungary

Instagram influencers have a tough job in Hungary. It is legally required to get the permission of EVERYONE in your photo when you take it in public. That’s a hard gig for any tourist visiting.

7. Russia

Who knows where this originally came from. Hopefully, nobody still enforces it! Apparently, it’s illegal to brush your teeth more than twice per day.

8. Sweden

If you are going out to “paint the town red” in Sweden, make sure the bar has a dancing permit! Anything other than sitting, standing, or walking is illegal without a permit if you bust a move.

9. Iran

Prohibition, anyone? If you are heading to Iran, leave the flask at home. It’s illegal to possess or consume alcohol here. Tough crowd, right?

10. Denmark

While it’s illegal to run over kids in most countries (that’s a good thing), we don’t normally have to lean down and check for them every time we get into our car. In Denmark, it’s a must!

11. India

Kites are some of the most fun you can have on a windy day. If you are in India, however, make sure you have your license! They are considered aircraft and require a permit.

12. Philippines

Beware siblings everywhere if you are traveling to the Philippines! They have an “unjust vexation” law, meaning its illegal to annoy someone without reason. Brothers must go to jail often!

13. Japan

Don’t place ice-cream cones into mailboxes. That seems to make sense! Who knows how bad of a problem it had to be for there to be a law about it.

14. Ukraine

If you have a smoking habit, Ukraine probably isn’t the best place for you! It’s illegal to smoke anywhere in public in Ukraine. You better bring some gum!

15. Thailand

Free speech has its limits here in Thailand. If you insult the king, you can face serious jail time! Lot’s of people would be in jail if that were the case in other countries!

16. Morocco

Guilty by association is a big deal in Morocco. If you are even around someone when they are arrested, and they have drugs in their pocket, you are going in the dungeon too!

17. Mexico

When naming your baby in Mexico, check out this list first! There is a list of names that are absolutely off-limits to name your kid. Some of the funnier ones are Rambo and Rolling Stone.

18. Turkey

Not even an Incognito Browser will save you in Turkey! They have blocked over 100,000 websites in the country. Looks like you may need to bring a book and catch up on your reading!

19. Saudi Arabia

A “girls night in” is probably preferable to a “girls night out” in Saudi Arabia. It’s illegal to swim or compete in sports for the women of the country!

20. Canada

If you have an aversion to blood, Canada is the place for you. It’s against the law to remove any bandage while in public. Even if the wound is already healed, it’s still illegal!
