Andrea Bocelli and Reba mesmerize crowd singing Elvis' 'Blue Christmas'

There are a ton of wonderful Christmas songs out there, like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” “Last Christmas” by Wham!, and Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.” But one song, in particular, that will forever remain a classic in our hearts is Elvis Presley’s “Blue Christmas.”

It is quite hard to top what is already such an incredible song and performance, but these two may have just come very, very close.

Just in time for the holidays, there is a stunning performance of the song done by the wonderful Andrea Bocelli and Reba McEntire. If you are unfamiliar with the two, Bocelli is a renowned Italian opera singer and McEntire is an iconic country-western star.

Before the performance began, Bocelli spoke with the host of the show and even admitted that he used to be a bit jealous of Presley. “Honestly, I was a little bit jealous of Elvis Presley because when I was young, all my girlfriends loved Presley more than me. For this reason, I decided one day, I will sing his song.” Naturally, the audience laughed at this remark as he is Andrea Bocelli, of course.

After the hilarious introduction, he welcomes McEntire to the stage at the Kodak Theatre. Before they even begin to sing, the performance is already chilling right off the bat. An entire string section nails a perfectly whimsical intro and there is even a harp player to make it feel even more like a fairytale.

Then Bocelli begins to sing.

“I’ll have a blue Christmas without you / I’ll be so blue just thinking about you,” he sings in his opera-style. It is calm and subtle yet oh-so-smooth and dreamy!

When McEntire begins her part, the music also starts to pick up and twist into a slightly more cheerful tone. “And when those blue snowflakes start falling / That’s when those blue little memories start calling,” she croons, adding a spine-tingling country flare.

Then the two join in and sing together, harmonizing so seamlessly they make it sound like anyone could just go and sing like that. After the chilling harmonies, a brief piano solo comes in and adds an atmospheric sparkle to the very pure and charming performance. Violins carry the song as well, making it feel like a jazzy dream.

It is also worth noting that for the duration of the entire performance, Bocelli and McEntire are standing very close together, almost embracing each other. Their support for each other, both vocally and emotionally, is so palpable, which makes for such a heartwarming and authentic show.

And when they finish the song they both show just how modest they are (despite their overwhelming talents) and turn to each other and clap for one another. It’s almost as if they are each other’s fans!

The audience is obviously thrilled as well. The camera cuts to a shot of some members’ faces and they all have the biggest, widest grins on their faces… Probably because they just witnessed a legendary Christmas performance!
