Dancers get Golden Buzzer after wowing entire studio with their flipping awesome performance
They call themselves Boyband, but they’re not singers.
In fact, when the 5 men announced to judge Simon Cowell that they’d be dancing, the typically cranky judge replied: “What? Is this serious?”
Oh, they were serious all right!
Choosing a fan favorite song to get the audience pumped up, the young men, who range in age from 17-19, lined up with their heads bowed as Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ hit “Uptown Funk” began to play.
It doesn’t take long for the audience to start roaring at their incredible synchronicity as they feign a warm-up and then get down.
There are smiles – and even some cheers – from the judges’ table as their moves grab everyone’s attention.
Of course, a little breakdancing doesn’t hurt either!
Perhaps most excited are the show’s hosts – Anthony “Ant” McPartlin (left) and Declan “Dec” Donnelly – who interview the contestants backstage before their performances.
Boyband has clearly won over the auditorium before the backflips – yes, backflips – even begin!
And these guys get some major air.
After their performance, the judges all get up to give them a standing ovation – even Simon Cowell! And the backstage hosts are shocked to see all four judges on their feet.
It’s pretty clear that they rocked the house and will be rewarded some very positive feedback.
But then something rare happens – in fact, the judges’ comments won’t mean anything after this.
Ant & Dec run out on stage, much to the shock of Boyband. There’s only one thing they could be doing.
The audience gets to its feet again and the judges are all smiles as the hosts do what they’re only permitted to do once a season – they slam the Golden Buzzer for Boyband!
If you don’t watch the show, the Golden Buzzer is significant. It allows the act to move on to the semi-final rounds regardless of what the other judges think. It’s no guarantee they’ll keep moving on after that, but it’s a way of showing performers that they’re good enough to win.
All five dancers start flipping out – quite literally – when they hit the buzzer and gold confetti rains down on them to celebrate.
It’s clear the judges support the move as well – Simon Cowell even offers up a high-five.
While the band got some flack for having a history of performing in dance competitions in the past after their successful audition, they took it in stride according to Digital Spy, pointing out that many acts have performed professionally in the past before appearing on the show.
Despite their history, the troupe says they didn’t even start preparing for the audition until the week before!
“This may seem really bad, but we are quite last minute with our sets. But we work so well together as a group…as soon as we come together, that’s it.”
While they didn’t win it all on the 9th installment of the show, they did reach the finals.
