Boys discover emaciated dog dumped in old sewer drain and determine to save him

Out of all the things you’d expect to find in a sewer pipe drain, a dog is probably the worst one to find. That’s no place for a dog to end up.

Though that’s what happened to two boys in Flint Michigan. As the story goes, cousins Tyler and Eugene were having a normal walk through town.

Empty lots can get overgrown with vegetation very quickly and can make for some underrated scenery. Those tall stretches of grass, shrubs, bushes, and old trees are nice to see when you live in a place full of concrete and metal.

But this wouldn’t be a typical pleasant walk by the grass and trees.

Tyler and Eugene soon crossed a sign tossed on the ground. When they lifted it over, the sign revealed a 2-meter deep sewer pipe drain.

And at the bottom of the hole was the last thing anyone wanted to see: a dog.

Staring back up at them from the bottom of the hole was a Pitbull.

The dog was scared, alone, and emaciated. It was alive, but wouldn’t be for much longer if no one helped it.

There was barely any muscle left on the poor thing. Its ribcage and vertebrae could be made out clearly under its skin.

Tyler ran back home with Eugene following. He informed his dad about the dog and asked for help.

There’s no way two young boys, even with the help of one of their dads, could safely pull the dog out of the pit.

Thankfully, they didn’t have to do it themselves.

They called police and animal rescue for Flint, Michigan and eventually got the dog out.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Had Tyler and Eugene not happen to just flip the sign over, the dog wouldn’t have been found.

Though I suppose the sight of a large sign laying flat on the pavement would seem pretty out of place.

Now the question was, how to help this starving, sick, emaciated dog?

Soon, the foster home had the full scope of Mars’ physical condition. He had heartworm, alongside the obvious malnourishment.

The resilient dog got treatment for heartworm, but putting those pounds back on wasn’t going to be easy.

It’d be some time before Mars would be back to his old self, or even close to it.

That time passed, and Mars eventually did put those pounds back on. He had to give up a few teeth, but he was otherwise doing great. Even better, he got adopted. this was all thanks to the nonstop efforts of Bully Love Rescue on Facebook.

His story earned the title “From hole to home”. It’s quite a clever title, isn’t it?

Mars’s story just goes to show us that every dog is worth saving.

And, thankfully, there’s no shortage of good hearts willing to do so!
