Isabella Pieri has gone through something that no child should go through. When she was just nine years old, she lost her mother to cancer. She had to learn to become more independent as a result. Luckily, an unlikely member of the community has helped her out.
Isabella was born into a loving home. The early years of her childhood were incredibly happy, thanks to her nurturing parents. But then, something terrible happened.
Isabella’s mom was diagnosed with cancer.
The mother’s husband and daughter were there for her every step of the way. But she kept on getting weaker and weaker.
Then, when Isabella was just nine years old, her mother lost her battle with cancer.
Isabella’s dad was still there for her. But the poor child had to learn to become much more independent. In the mornings, she had to get ready on her own.
Isabella soon learned most of the things she had to do. But brushing her hair appropriately was always a challenge. She just couldn’t get it right as her mom could.
Isabella turned to her dad for help. But he also struggled with styling Isabella’s hair. After months of trying and failing to make Isabella’s hair right, he went to drastic measures. He said that he could cut Isabella’s hair. Isabella was reluctant. She loved her long flowing hair, when it was brushed right. But she didn’t want to upset her dad, so she agreed to let him cut it.
When Isabella saw what her dad had done to her hair, she was horrified. The crew cut was the opposite of what she wanted to look like. She tried not to show her upset to her father. But she couldn’t help herself.
So Isabella grew her hair out once more and struggled to maintain it.
But then help came from an unlikely place. Isabella had seen her school bus driver, Tracy Dean, styling another girl’s hair. So Isabella asked Tracy if she could style her hair too.
Tracy smiled and asked Isabella to stay behind on the bus after it got to school. So when it was just Isabella and Tracy on the bus, Tracy took something out of her bag. It was a styling kit.
Tracy then spent about 10 minutes brushing and braiding Tracy’s hair in the way that the girl liked it. Isabella couldn’t believe it. She had thought that she might never look like this again.
It might sound silly to some people. But having her hair right meant the world to Isabella. After all that she had been through, she really needed something like this in her life.
Then Tracy started crying. Isabella was confused. But then Tracy revealed something about her past. She herself had had cancer, just like Isabella’s mom.
Luckily, Tracy had pulled through and was still there for her children. She just wished that Isabella’s mom could still be in the world. Tracy also promised that she would style Isabella’s hair every morning from then on.
“I didn’t just survive for my husband or my children. I survived for these kids on the bus that need somebody to talk to or do their hair or whatever.” – Tracy Dean.
At school, a teacher saw Isabella’s hair and happier demeanor. She asked Isabella who had styled her hair.
Isabella told her about her bus driver. So the teacher decided to go out of her way to thank her. She wrote a note to the bus company, telling them that their employee had done something incredible.
Tracy Dean is undoubtedly an incredible person.
She has gone out of her way to help someone who has been through something terrible. If only everyone could look out for others in their community in the same way.
