Camera footage shows Good Samaritans running over to help unconscious woman in her car
Good Samaritans were caught on camera rescuing a driver who lost control of her vehicle at a busy intersection in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Her colleague was just two lanes over. The woman slumped over her steering wheel causing her car to crawl past the stoplight.
Her colleague ran across the street, waving her arms to alert other drivers.
There was a service member in uniform behind them but other cars interrupted his sprint.
“Our understanding is that they both left work, and they were in lanes next to each other,” said Boynton Beach police spokesperson Stephanie Slater. “And so, co-worker looked over and saw her co-worker slumped over the wheel.”
Her colleague, Jannette Rivera, tried to guide the car to safety while other drivers stopped and ran over to help.
They banded together and tried to stop the car from hitting other vehicles.
A woman grabbed a dumbbell from her car. She handed it to a man so he could smash the rear window.
Another random driver climbed inside the car, unlocking the passenger door before he set the transmission in park.
The group pushed the vehicle to a 7-11, letting a nurse provide aid to the unconscious driver until 911 responded.
The woman’s name is Laurie Rabyor. She took blood pressure pills on May 5, then fasted before a medical procedure.
She began to feel dizzy while driving so she tried to pull over at a gas station.
Laurie began convulsing. She didn’t wake up until the next day.
“Thank you so much. I don’t know how to thank you. I wish I was a millionaire, so I could buy y’all a boat,” Laurie says.
The Boynton Beach Police Department shared the video with the hopes of finding the Good Samaritans.
“We are sharing this video in hopes of learning the identities of all the strangers who came together to save this woman’s life,” wrote the police department. “They are heroes and we want to bring them back together at the police department to recognize them and meet the woman they rescued.”
They shared the email address of the public information officer hoping to get any leads.
Calls and e-mails poured in within three hours of posting the video.
The police then shared an update saying they will be reuniting Laurie with her rescuers. The man in uniform was identified as U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Juan Chavez.
Davita Peele is a U.S. Postal Service worker. She was at Home Depot when she heard a woman shouting from the intersection, “help me, help me.”
She knew something was wrong so she got out and ran over to help. Peele didn’t know what was going on but she did see a woman unconscious behind the wheel.
Davita says it can happen to anyone anytime so we should all be ready to help each other.
Random strangers came out to help Laurie. The situation could have been so much worse had it not been for their selflessness.
