Couple buys old church built in 1700s and renovates it into amazing family home
In England, a couple made the decision to tackle a daunting renovation project.
Their aim was to renovate a church.
It had remained vacant for several years but still had great bones, though those “bones” are now hundreds of years old.
Although it was an enormous project, the result was exquisite.
The church’s beauty was restored.
After falling in love with the church, the couple decided to buy and renovate it.
As a result, the house now features five bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living rooms, and two kitchens.
The transformation of the St. Nicholas Church into a stunning residence has left us in awe, as it stands as one of the most beautiful houses we have ever encountered.
Situated in Kyloe, a hillside village approximately six miles away from the Northumberland coast of England, the church has retained the look and feel of its exterior architectural features.
The interior boasts a pleasant surprise.
The great room, which includes the living room, dining room, and kitchen, also has the church’s chancel, nave, and vestry.
Despite the inclusion of skylights during the renovation, the home still retains the original stained glass windows, which add to its character and allure.
The church’s towering ceilings were left in place, giving the area an open and airy feel.
In contrast, the cozy furnishings and decorations create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Did we mention there’s a library?
To access the library and the second floor of the church house, you have to go up the double staircases.
The open-timbered ceiling of the room gives a beautiful nod to the previous state of the church, as do the biblical scriptures etched in tin along the great room’s edge.
The “primary” kitchen is suitable for a gourmet chef.
The stunning cabinetry was remade from pitch pine, which was from aged church pews and roof timber.
Besides full-size gourmet appliances, the church house also has an under-floor central heating system.
The dining room appears designed for royalty.
This refined space contains a solid wooden table situated beneath stunning stained-glass windows.
Long velvet curtains may be drawn to transform the area into one of the home’s bedrooms, accessible by a small set of stairs on the right-hand side.
Upon exiting the living room, you find there is a hallway that leads to an entirely different section of the house.
This hallway provides access to a winter kitchen, an additional bedroom, and one of the two bathrooms, which even has Brazilian slate flooring.
Undoubtedly, the primary bathroom is one of the most stunning rooms in the whole house.
A clawfoot bathtub is enclosed by an eye-catching 12-foot stained glass window.
In this vast space, there is no need to be concerned about exiting the tub since the room has heated floors and two heated towel racks.
Upstairs, there are two additional “mirror-image” bedrooms, each with handcrafted storage, a skylight, and enough room for king-sized beds and other furnishings.
This inspiring and unique transformation is among the most impressive we have seen so far.
While the idea of transforming an old church into a home may seem unusual at first, this couple has truly created a beautiful home in the process.
The couple also saved this church from decaying and brought new life to it, making it a gorgeous home for many years to come.
