The French gave America The Statue of Liberty. And this video shows that in return, America gave the French the rockabilly dance.

When you visit Paris, what do you expect to see? The Eiffel Tower? Notre Dame? American dances?

American dances are on very few people’s Paris vacation lists, but they happen. And when they occur, the crowds love it.

One video shows just what happens when a couple starts dancing in a 1950s rockabilly style in front of one of France’s most iconic landmarks.

It begins with the couple standing nearby The Eiffel Tower. They hold each other’s hand and move back and forth to Why by The Cues.

Both are dressed in appropriately 50s styled clothes and hairdos.

As they move across the space, tourists look on, impressed with their moves.

Then their moves get really good.

The man flips the woman 360 degrees in the air.

The woman slides under the man’s legs and leaps up.

For a finale, the man leans the woman down to the ground.

The crowd, which has grown considerably, applauds.

Luckily, this video then appeared on YouTube, where it soon went viral.

To date, it has gained over 5.4 million views. It also has more than 25,000 likes and 1,000 comments. People have been saying things like this:

The dancers in this video have the stage names Marty and Miss Dee. In addition to dancing all over Paris, they also teach others the art of rockabilly dancing.

A few other videos of Marty and Miss Dee have become successful.

One performance has them dancing at a Parisian venue called the Bal de la Bourse.

This performance gains a huge crowd and even features a move where Marty ends up playing Miss Dee’s midriff as a piano!

The Eiffel Tower dance was organized by a company appropriately named Fifties Sound.

It claims to be, “the cream of vintage and retro meetings,” in Paris. As well as public performances, it organizes Rock ‘n’ Roll evenings, flea markets, burlesque shows, festivals, concerts, DJ shows and much more.

Fifties Sound has been filling Paris with retro events since 1995.

This just shows how much 50s Americana resonates with other cultures.

Of course, not every country loves the USA. For instance, we can’t say for sure, but you’re unlikely to see any public rockabilly dances on the streets of Pyongyang, North Korea.

But there are plenty of other countries that embrace the rockabilly dance.

For instance, up until coronavirus happened, there were going to be rockabilly events all over the world in 2020. These events would have taken place in countries like Italy, Canada, Belgium, Brazil, Switzerland and, naturally, the USA.

But of course, rockabilly is still a pretty niche interest right now. Maybe it’s due for a revival, when people can congregate again?

After all, rockabilly first rose because of the post World War II boom. Once coronavirus recedes, there’s bound to be another boom, which could lead to a whole new wave of rockabilly.
