Fed up father teaches bully son a rainy life lesson and films it for everyone to see
Bullies are the worst. They can make the grade school experience a living nightmare.
Sometimes kids go to their parents for a solution to their bullying problems. But what happens when your kid’s the bully?
Virginian Bryan Thornhill, a loving father of two, was notified that his son was caught picking on others.
Hayden, his 10-year-old grade school student son, faced three days suspension.
Unwilling to stand for such foolishness, Bryan proceeds to ensure that Hayden never replicates such behavior.
He teaches Hayden a lesson he’ll never forget.
Most kids would assume that their parents would willingly take them to school during a bus suspension. Well, Bryan doesn’t care for that mentality.
Instead, Hayden’s instructed to run the mile from home to school… with his backpack on… in the pouring rain… with his father live streaming and recording all of it.
The punishment fits the crime.
It’s poetic justice in some way. They say walking a mile in someone else’s shoes can give you some perspective. Well, in a way, that’s what happened. Instead of being a bully, Hayden gets bullied.
On a rainy Virginia school day, Bryan starts the live feed on Facebook, publicly shaming his son as he’s forced to run to school.
“Alright everybody, welcome to you better listen to your dad 2018.”
Bryan later explains,
“My son has finally gotten in trouble on the bus enough that he actually got kicked off the bus for three days, because he was being a little bully, which I do not tolerate.”
Clearly displeased with his behavior, he opts to make an example out of his son.
“Hayden now is curious to see exactly how fast he can run to school in morning. So we are gonna see what he can do and time and distance it. He now is motivated to become a gold medal runner… The good news is, I guess, he keeps up a pretty good mile pace at six miles per hour so far.””
Bryan further explains his perspective, even going into how Hayden got into this mess,
“He accidentally kicked a kid in the groin in the process of jumping over the kid’s seat, crawling under the seats, jumping back and forth from seats, pushing or pulling a kid down the aisle.”
Bryan’s actions drew mixed reactions on social media. While many are supportive of his no-nonsense approach, others have been openly critical. Bryan defends his decision,
“I was feeling bad for the rain. I was like you know what, we need to wash this attitude away and calm him down. And it worked, and it worked brilliantly”
Bryan at least seems to be coming from a place of love. He wants the best for his son, and he can’t bear to see him head down the wrong paths,
“Is he gonna be perfect everyday? No. Is going to to make mistakes? Yeah. Am I going to be there though to help him, guide him, and fix him? Yeah. If he needs a hug, he’s gonna get a hug. If he needs to run, he’s gonna run. He’s gonna get what he needs to direct him to be a responsible young man.”
In an interview with local news, the humbled Hayden reflects on his punishment,
“In the rain it wasn’t super fun but I think it was a good punishment because I think I deserved it.”
Hayden seems genuinely apologetic and understanding of the flaws in his actions.
I doubt he’ll be bullying others anytime soon.
What do you think?
Did Hayden learn his lesson?
Was Bryan’s punishment justified?
