Husky brings owner into the woods and leads her to a litter of kittens in need
Dogs truly care for the people in their lives. They provide companionship and, in the case of a service dog, much-needed help in dealing with various medical and psychiatric conditions that their owners might suffer from. One service dog, in particular, has a soft spot in her heart for other animals, especially kittens.
Banner helps her mom get through her day
Three-year-old Siberian Huskey Banner is a service dog for Whitney Braley who suffers from anxiety attacks resulting from her PTSD. Banner is also able to detect oncoming migraines and blood pressure issues for her mom, letting her know so that she can take the appropriate steps.
The role of service dogs
Service dogs, in particular, fill an important role in the lives of the people to whom they belong. Not only can they help them get around if they are blind, but they also alert their owner and help them with any medical conditions they have – as in Braley’s case. Suffice it to say, without their service animals, the people who use them would live a far more dangerous life.
A surprise in the woods
Remarkably, Banner’s loving and helpful nature extends to more than just her mom, it also extends to other animals. One day, while Braley and Banner were outside, the dog led her into a wooded area. Banner made her way over to a cardboard box and circled it. Curious, Braley opened the box and was surprised by what was inside.
Banner’s instincts had kicked in
As Braley watched, Banner put her head in the box and lifted out a kitten. Braley found 7 kittens in total in the box. How Banner had known that something was amiss is beyond her owner. All that Braley knows is that Banner somehow knew something was wrong and led her straight to the kittens.
“I don’t even know how Banner knew they were in there,” Braley said in an interview. “The kittens were freezing and weren’t meowing or anything. She just knew somehow. She is a true hero. If she didn’t find the kittens, they would have all died.”
Banner takes the kittens on as her own
Braley rushed the kittens home to care for them and hopefully nurse them back to health. Banner stepped up to the plate once again, acting as their surrogate mom, caring for each kitten as if it was her own. She watched over them constantly, was extremely gentle with them, and would snuggle up to them for naps.
Banner is truly a super dog
Braley feels that it was, in part, due to Banner’s motherly instincts that the kittens survived. Eventually, the kittens recovered and soon found loving homes to call their own. As for Banner, she continues to be the amazing and helpful dog she has always been.
