For Marie, the stress was threatening to overwhelm her. But then her landlord did something amazing.

Alan, Marie’s landlord, knew that his tenant’s work must have been shut down. He also knew that he wasn’t going to do anything to add to a single mother of four’s worries.

So Alan called Marie up and told her that she didn’t need to pay rent in April. Marie was incredibly grateful to Alan. But Alan reassured her that she had been a fantastic tenant all this time. He knew circumstances beyond her control had impacted her income and just couldn’t bear to charge someone in that situation.

But Alan had another surprise for Marie.

First, he asked Marie if she had enough food. Marie responded by saying that she had three packs of meat. She needed to go to the grocery store when she could.

Alan ended the call by saying that Marie should stay safe. But that wasn’t the end of his kindness.

A few hours later, Alan text Marie, telling her to look at her front door. Marie opened the door and was amazed at what she found.

Waiting for Marie and her four children were around a dozen shopping bags, filled with groceries. In addition to groceries were other essentials, like diapers and toilet paper.

Marie couldn’t believe that her landlord would do something so selfless. She and her children would now be able to get by for weeks without leaving the home.

She posted the story along with a photo of all of the groceries to Facebook. In no time at all, that post went viral.

To date, it has gained over 586,000 reactions. It also has more than 184,000 shares and 98,000 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Alan has really gone above and beyond! Canceling the rent for April was already an incredibly good deed.

After all, many landlords depend on rental income to pay for their own bills. But Alan was able to see that his tenant’s needs were greater.

There are many people like Alan all across the USA and the world. People like him will get us through the coronavirus crisis. Yes, it’s important to earn money and pay the bills. But in times like these, looking out for your community members and keeping people safe are far more important. No one needs extra pressure right now. If you can do anything to make other people more secure, then you should do it.
