Earning a dog’s trust after it has been abused or abandoned requires more than just love and patience; you also need to be dedicated to your mission.

A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue posted its longest rescue-mission story yet in a video last April. It already has well over a million views and when you watch it for yourself, you’ll instantly know why.

It all starts with a kind man taking notice of an abandoned Pittie.

The video is all about Mama, an abandoned Pitbull who felt no trust towards humans but, with one man’s love, patience, and dedication; she was able to slowly trust again.

Around 2019, concerned residents started posting about a dog that was seen living near Ducor, California.

They said that she was abandoned and was very scared of humans.

In early December, Danny Spanks of A Safefurr Place Animal Rescue noticed the posts.

Being the animal lover that Danny is, he became both concerned and interested.

He noticed that Mama would sleep under the solar panels and remain aloof but, in the morning, she would linger in hopes of getting food from people who would pass by.

She clearly didn’t trust humans. She would immediately run away if someone attempted to get close to her.

Undoubtedly, her trust was broken.

Danny knew that it would be a great challenge to rescue Mama, but he was decided.

He began with just leaving some food for Mama. Every single day, he would walk along through the field tossing a trail of hot dog chunks behind him until one day, it paid off.

Danny found himself staying in the field for hours so that Mama would begin to get used to him.

Slowly, Mama seemed to understand why Danny was there. Instead of running, she would stay near to him.

She was still maintaining a good distance but she was a little bit at ease now.

He was so patient with her, doing this daily routine until, finally, one day Mama gained enough confidence to come a little bit closer – yes! It was working.

Mama was still very cautious but then, her tail wagged!

Another milestone for Danny!

Danny was so happy that Mama showed signs of wanting to play!

Every day, Mama would wait for Danny at the same spot, and then they would go into their play area and spend time together.

Before too long, Mama even started showing affection towards the kind man who came just to see her every day.

Just in case you’re wondering, that little jaunt took Danny no less than 45 minutes (just to get there)!

Every day, Danny was thrilled to see little improvements in their growing bond.

Then, one day, Mama started to get an episode of “the zoomies”! What a happy moment! Clearly, Mama was slowly learning to love again, but there was still something missing…

She wouldn’t let Danny touch her.

“There was still this invisible barrier,” Danny said. (Something that Mama established.)

Maybe she was just so heartbroken by the family who had abandoned her that she was afraid of trusting again completely.

Danny understood her; he was patient, and he was dedicated.

Soon, they started playing games. According to Danny, Mama’s favorite game was “steal the leash”.

Looking at them, it is really beautiful. Danny’s patience and Mama’s longing for love is just something so touching.

Mama’s striking eyes started showing happiness again, and it was mesmerizing!

Just around 3 months after Danny’s mission began, the rescue team received a video that told what happened to Mama.

The video explained why she was so untrusting of humans.

Turns out, Mama was abandoned around January of 2019 and clearly, she was still a nursing mother, but her puppies were nowhere to be found.

Mama was left alone by the people she trusted, and they took her away from her babies.

Danny was more devoted than ever to rescue Mama. Though, previous attempts of getting her inside the cage had been unsuccessful.

Thankfully, he had another plan.

He started desensitizing Mama to the leash.

Then, they created a large trap inside the orchard, but it was just there. Danny let it sit there in the field, giving Mama time to get used to the trap.

Once Mama got so used to the trap that she was comfortable getting in and out of it, the time came to finally rescue the sweet Pittie.

Friends from Saving Strays K9 and Rescue offered their assistance as well, and with all their efforts combined – it was successful.

After Mama was in the cage, she was transferred from the orchard to Danny’s home.

After more than 4 months of effort, love, and patience from Danny, Mama finally allowed him to touch her for the very first time.

Mama is still adjusting to her new life.

She is still a little bit reserved, but you can clearly see in her eyes that she’s a truly loved and happy Pittie now.
