Rodrigo Gonzalez was driving down the highway one afternoon when he saw the poor dog. He knew that he couldn’t leave him.

After work one day Rodrigo Gonzalez drove home. On the opposite side of the freeway, he saw something that shocked him.

It was a dog lying still at the side of the road. Other cars were passing by, dangerously close to the dog.

In that moment, Gonzalez knew that he had to do a u-turn and help the animal.

The dog had been completely motionless. But he would never forgive himself for abandoning the creature.

Even though the freeway was busy, Rodrigo pulled up next to the dog. When Gonzalez rolled down his window, the dog moved and began to whimper.

So he was alive. But he couldn’t stand without falling over.

Quickly, Gonzalez got out of his car. He carefully picked the animal up and placed him into the backseat.

As soon as Gonzalez was off the freeway, he looked up the nearest vet and rushed the dog to the location.

The vet said that the dog was in a bad way. He had been hit and lost an eye. He also saw that the dog was suffering from a spinal injury.

Sadly, the vet said that even if the dog survived, he would never walk again.

The vet kept the animal in care for a week, desperate to save him. Gonzalez would visit the dog every day. He hoped that this would encourage the dog to stay alive.

Then, seven days after the dog had first arrived at the vet, something miraculous happened. Gonzalez opened the dog’s crate to pet him. And the dog stood up and walked out. The dog was a little uneasy on his feet. But the vet was amazed. He had thought that the dog was paralyzed.

Over the coming days, the dog, whom Gonzalez named Lucky, continued to recover. Soon, he was running around happily (if a little unsteadily.)

The next thing he knew, Gonzalez was taking Lucky to his home. He was not intending to adopt Lucky, but he was determined to look after him until he found a loving family.

Gonzalez can’t help but take in any abandoned or injured dog that he comes across (To date, he has saved more than 20 dogs.)

So when Lucky was at his home, he had other dogs to hang out with. In fact, Lucky started becoming a very social dog!

A year went by, and no one had adopted Lucky. Gonzalez realized that Lucky would be with him permanently. Gonzalez had already fallen in love with this funny dog by then.

In the years since Gonzalez took Lucky in, many other dogs have come and gone from their home. Lucky always does what he can to make these new dogs feel comfortable.

Lucky definitely deserves his name, and not just because of his miraculous recovery.

He has found a loving owner, and those dark days leading up to his accident on the freeway are now a distant memory.

Hopefully, Lucky still has many happy years ahead of him.
