Mischievous Golden retrievers wake up toddler to recruit her for food heist

Meet Colby and Bleu, two fun-loving, trouble-making Golden Retrievers who are also fondly known as The Cheese Pups. These two doggos have been palling around together since they were just pups. The two partners in crime have even gone viral for their silly, slip-and-slide race to their food bowls in a 9-month time-lapsed video.

Then, in 2018 the mischievous Golden Retrievers went viral again, but this time they had a third partner-in-crime in their pack.

A few years ago now, Colby and Bleu’s parents, Chris and Nina Cardinal surprised their furbabies by bringing home their newborn daughter, Chloe. While Colby bonded to his new baby sister right away, Bleu took a little more time to make sense of the new addition to his already-perfect pack.

Colby was immediately, ‘This is my person!’ Bleu took some warming up. Then he realized she was capable of giving pets,” Chris recalls in an interview with The Dodo.

It wouldn’t be long before the Golden Retrievers started forming a mutually beneficial relationship with their tiny human.

As time went on and Chloe grew to be a toddler, the opportunistic pups began to realize there was something very special about Chloe. Whenever they were around her, food became suddenly more available.

The Golden Retrievers began hanging out beneath Chloe’s feet whenever she was in her chair, knowing she’d give up the goods.

Colby parks himself under Chloe’s high chair every night. Lately she’s gotten tall enough to reach into their food bin, so she scoops out kibble and drops it for them,” Chris says in another interview with Bored Panda.

When Chloe was 15-months-old, the Golden Retrievers decided the trio should take their crime spree to new heights by co-opting Chloe in a food heist!

The dogs know that their breakfast time is around six each morning. If mom and dad don’t get up to feed them, though, they will try to find a way to get it without them.

When 6 am rolls around and they haven’t been fed yet, they definitely go looking,” Chris tells Bored Panda.

That’s exactly what happened one morning when Colby and Bleu’s mom, Nina, woke up to find her toddler roaming the halls. The Cardinals were both surprised to find Chloe out of her bedroom since she wasn’t then tall enough to reach the doorknob.

Knowing they close her bedroom door every night, Nina and Chris decided they should do a little investigating. So, they looked over the footage from the baby monitoring camera they have set up in Chloe’s bedroom to see if they could solve this mystery.

In the video, all seems normal at first. Chloe is sleeping soundly, tucked safely away in her bed. That is until 6:05 A.M. rolls around… five minutes past the dogs’ breakfast time.

You see the Golden Retrievers enter the toddler’s bedroom, ready to break her free so they could get some grub.

Though the door was shut, the Cardinals learned long ago that Colby, the little sneak, had figured out how to open doors all by himself. With that knowledge in mind, the couple could only suspect that it was Colby who’d done the actual breaking and entering, with Bleu never far behind.

Though the toddler gets up, she’s a little slow for the Goldens’ appetite. So, one of them creeps up onto her bed and steals her stuffed duckie to give Chloe some motivation.

The Golden Retrievers run out of the room and leave Chloe to herself while they hide the Duckie from her.

Their food ransom for Duckie works like magic and Chloe is ready to be their food-thieving accomplice.

The two Golden Retrievers run back into Chloe’s room and give her moral support as she climbs off her bed and follows them out the door. In the end, the crime-seeking three musketeers accomplished their goal and the dogs got their breakfast.

They definitely knew what they were doing. They start getting real hungry around 6 a.m., and instead of barking outside our room, I think they figured they’d try the baby. They’ve snuck into her room before overnight once, but not for breakfast. (At the time, she wasn’t walking yet.) So this is the first time it effected a prison break,” Chris explains to The Dodo.

The adorable food-heist is just too hilarious not to watch. See for yourself in the video below, and if you fall in love with Colby and Bleu the same way so many others have, you can keep up with their shenanigans on their Instagram page.
