Dog tests out brand-new “dog-proof” fence – and the video has us in stitches
To protect their pets, many pet owners put up a fence in their backyard. This allows their animals to play outside while also keeping other animals out.
Itâs also supposed to keep them in, but as a hilarious video on YouTube has shown, that is not always the case.
A hilarious video
The video, which seems to be a little tongue-in-cheek, shows a fence that pet owner rgraves62002 had put up to keep his dog, Stella, safe. Stellaâs owner had found her in a dumpster and had decided to rescue her.
He should have known better when building the fence, as much as he says she loves to run, jump, and play.
Building a fence to keep Stella in the yard
The method he used to determine exactly how high Stella could jump was by having her hop over a baby gate. He then added six inches, thinking that would be tall enough. Boy, was he ever wrong. After he had installed the fence, he decided to film the result.
âYep, just completed fixing this fence. Pretty proud of it, Iâd have to say. Tried to keep Stella in the yard,â he says in the video.
Stella easily jumps the fence
At that point in the video, Stella bounds into frame. Running to the end of the fence, where the ground is higher, she easily hops over the newly built fence. This leaves her owner shocked and a little dismayed.
All you can hear him mutter in the video is, âDammit.â It seems Stella wonât let a mere fence curtail her sense of freedom.
Keeping your dog from escaping your yard
But exactly why do dogs like to escape from their yards? For the most part, it is a sign of boredom or loneliness. This is especially a problem with more active dog breeds, such as a herding or sporting dog. These types of dogs need a job to help them feel fulfilled.
One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to keep your dog in the yard is to spend time with them, including playing with them. When you are not able to be there, such as when you are at work, make sure to give them some dog toys to play with. You should also rotate their toys for new ones every so often to make them more interesting.
If all else fails, and they keep escaping the yard, either keep them inside if you canât monitor them or install a device, such as a dog roller, at the top of the fence to help keep them inside of it. Another option is to enroll them in a doggie daycare so that they get an opportunity for the level of activity that they seek.
