Pit bulls save owner when four strangers break into his home

Dogs are the best – no ifs and or buts. This story is just another piece of the puzzle that shows us a picture of just how amazing they really are. They will love and protect those who have shown them kindness in an amazing way.

Robert McGowan learned about that loyalty in a terrifying way.

McGowan was at home one night hanging out with two dogs that he had taken home from a shelter mere days before. Named Ellabelle and Ladybug, the two pit bulls were hanging out with their friend, happy to not be in a shelter that evening!

Pit bulls get a bad wrap most of the time.

People think they are “naturally aggressive,” but in reality, they are sweet and gentle. In fact, pit bulls like Ellabelle and Ladybug are usually quite timid coming from shelters. McGowan spoke about the pups and said:

“They’re very docile and timid. They’re not aggressive at all.”

Ella and Ladybug didn’t have great lives before McGowan.

They were abused and neglected – the complete opposite of the love and safety they now had with McGowan. They had even sat in the shelter and been passed over as people didn’t want a breed like theirs.

McGowan’s decision to take them in quite possibly saved his life!

It was a regular old evening, and McGowan was sitting in his garage on a chair near his car. Hanging out, he left his garage door open, letting the air in. Suddenly, four men sprinted into the garage and started attacking him.

“One just punched me straight in the eye. I was knocked off my chair.”

Yelling for the keys to his car, the men continued to beat Robert.

As you can imagine, it’s hard to think straight when you were just popped in the head. McGowan tried to respond, but the robbers were getting anxious. He finally let them know the keys were inside the home.

The four attackers didn’t know that there was something else in the house waiting for them… TWO something else’s, in fact.

As soon as the door opened, the girls lept to action! They chased the men away and stood guard over their stunned friend.

“They chased them out. My girls ran into the garage and stood over me. They stood there barking, making it clear that no one was going to hurt me anymore. The four people took off.”

Incredibly, McGowan only had a black eye for his troubles.

Pit bulls aren’t a naturally aggressive breed, but like any loving creature (humans included), they will defend those they love! Why would they let four random people hurt the man who was taking care of and loving them?

If that isn’t a good argument to get a rescue, what is?!

McGowan said it perfectly:

“They are rescues. Unwanted dogs. They saved my life. Please consider adopting a rescue. They might save your life too.”

That’s one incredible story!
