City and county police officers stage dance-off to The Git Up Challenge – but the K9 unit is the real star

Blanco Brown’s official video for his hit song “The Git Up” has been seen over 44 million times on YouTube. It shows people on the street, firefighters, festival-goers, and even some old folks busting out the now-iconic moves that are spelled out in the song’s lyrics.

If you can’t pick up the moves from this, he made a separate dance version as well where he’s front and center displaying the steps.

But for the truly movement-challenged, he also broke down the dance steps even more explicitly in a special tutorial video.

And with all these efforts to get people to start doing “The Git Up,” he spawned an Internet phenomenon known as “The Git Up Challenge.”

It’s no wonder that everyone from daddies and daughters to firefighters and nurses have recorded their own versions of the video.

But one of the cutest and most popular entries was uploaded by the Sutter County Sheriff’s Office who teamed up with Yuba City Police Department, Sutter County Courts, and Sutter County Code Enforcement to accept the “challenge” posed by a neighboring jurisdiction.

It has now been viewed over 2.1 million times since it was uploaded in mid-November 2019 (making it a pretty late entry to the challenge that exploded much earlier in the summer).

As the video begins we get a little drama first as two officers – one city and one county – vie for the same parking spot (in an empty lot, by the way).

Things are about to get real as their commanding officers head out to battle over the precious parking space.

And as we all know, there’s really only one good way to settle these sorts of things – with a good old-fashioned dance-off!

But now it turns out that it’s the court’s property – so even more offices get involved in the dramatic parking lot display as the music begins.

And like the Sharks and the Jets battling for territory in West Side Story, each side has amassed some backup to dance it out.

There’s storytelling, smooth moves, good-humored officers of the law – what more could you want?

Well, if you want 2 million viewers you better get yourself a dog.

And that’s just what they do by involving their K-9 unit, Enzo!

Clearly, the dog is at a loss wondering something along the lines of either “why is everyone dancing in the parking lot” or “are you sure this dance challenge is really still a thing guys?”

Like most of the Internet, everything is immediately more entertaining with animals. In fact, we’ve pretty much stopped watching the humans at this point (though they’re all good dancers!). Give us more Enzo!

The pup even manages a few spins too – and at the right time!

Who knew that all that K-9 training would come in handy for something so important?

By now the dancers have even amassed an IRL audience – which is no surprise since cops dancing is quite an unusual sight.

Our only complaint is the camera work but that’s mostly because we think Enzo should be in every frame, especially since he seems to be getting some of the moves.

When the dancers “take it down now, take it take it down now,” he even lays down!

Can we get an all-dog version of The Git Up Challenge?!

As the team finishes up, they all give each other props for the great dance-off and show a little support for one another’s divisions.

And don’t worry, Enzo gets a pat on the head as well!
