Accidental birth injury leaves puppy with one ear and she’s rocking her unicorn look

Personality and temperament aren’t the only things that make dogs unique. Sometimes, the way they look can also make them extra special.

One Golden Retriever puppy is taking the hearts of many people on social media because of how she looks.

As a little puppy, Rae suffered an injury right after she was born.

Her mom was a little too rough when she was removing the amniotic sac.

She accidentally tore Rae’s skin and ear. As a result, one of her ears had to be removed. Oddly, the remaining ear ended up migrating to the top of her head after the surgery.

Now, Rae looks like a unicorn!

Her remaining ear migrated to the middle of her head, giving her the appearance of a unicorn. Because of how she looks, people can’t get enough of her.

Rae’s human, Sam, decided to share a video of her on TikTok.

Little did she know that it would make her adorable pet so popular on the internet and, after acquiring so many fans, Sam had to make a few social media accounts for Rae.

There, fans from all over the world can see what Rae is up to each day. It’s where Sam uploads all the adorable photos and videos of her remarkable Golden unicorn dog.

GoldenUnicornRae has 140 posts on her Instagram and nearly 240,000 followers. She has clearly amassed a great number of adorers and she’s expected to gain more. After all, she’s getting more and more spectacular by the day!

Despite having only one ear, Rae can hear perfectly.

Her condition didn’t stop her from living a normal life.

She’s like most dogs.

She enjoys being outdoors and getting cuddles. She has her lazy days, too. And during such days, she’ll just lay down on the couch and do nothing.

However, despite Rae’s perfect hearing, her ear still needs care.

Just like most Golden Retrievers, she’s also prone to ear infections. This is because they’re extremely active and full of energy.

You’ll find them digging and rolling around in the dirt whenever they get the chance. Dirt can get inside their ear canal and cause infection.

Golden Retrievers also like to swim. Water and floating debris can easily get into their ears when they are swimming. The same thing can happen if they frequently play with mud.

If you fail to clean your dog’s ears on a regular basis, it can damage its ear and impede its hearing.

Caring for Golden Retrievers ears

The easiest way to check your dog’s ears is to lift and look into its ear opening. Look for waxy buildup, excess hair, irritated skin, and discharges.

If there’s excess hair, you’ll need a good pair of trimmers. They are safer and easier to use than scissors.

As much as possible, only remove the hair in the outer part of the ear. Ask for your vet’s help if you need to clean or remove deep ear hair.

Get a damp cotton ball and use it to remove the debris on your dog’s ear. Each time you wipe, make sure to get a new cotton ball. This helps prevent the reintroduction of bacteria and dirt into the ear.

If there are visible signs of infection, get saline or medicated solutions from your vet. These solutions require careful and precise application. Ask for your vet’s help if it’s the first time you’re using one.
