Mom searches house for rescue dog, only to grab camera when she finds her napping with toddler
Every pet owner is familiar with the feeling of dread that comes with not being able to find your furry friend. Cats are well known for getting into mischief when they are left unsupervised, but sometimes dogs join in on the fun as well.
Kristin Leigh Rhynehart lives in Raleigh, New Jersey. She and her family and rescued a dog named Raven 10 years ago.
Rescuing Raven was one of the best decisions the family has ever made. over the past 10 years, Raven has brought so much joy, laughter and companionship to the family. Even after all this time in the family, he still finds new ways to put a smile on Kristin’s face.
One day, Kristin walked around her house and realized that she hadn’t seen Raven in a while.
She checked everywhere. She started looking in the kitchen, the living room and all of Raven’s favorite spots, but the dog was nowhere to be found. Kristen was worried that Raven had been up to something naughty and started checking more places like the backyard or garage.
Kristen’s daughter Addison was down for a nap and she didn’t want to risk waking her up, but it was the only place left to check.
Kristen carefully opened the door to Addison’s room and was surprised by an adorable view.
Addison lay sleeping in her crib cuddled up against Raven who was tucked in beside her. The scene was so adorable that Kristen had to take a video of it. She later shared it on Facebook where is gathered over 9.8 million views.
With the video, Kristen explained the story of how this scene was discovered. “That moment you can’t find your dog, and you even go outside looking for him…Only to walk in the house and find him snuggled up in bed next to your toddler.”
âPeople that say âmoney canât buy happinessâ have never paid an adoption fee,â she continued.
â10 years ago, I left a rescue with this little guy, and I often wonder⌠who rescued who?â
âI gave him a home but he gave me so, so much more.â
Even with these amazing occurrences with adopted pets, so many go unadopted.
Every year over 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized because their shelters cannot accommodate them. There are also many people who purchase their pets from breeders rather than adopting the dogs who need a home in shelters.
The Humane Society notes:
âThe number of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted pets instead of buying them. When you adopt, you save a loving animal by making them part of your family and open a shelter space for another animal who might desperately need it.â
Kristen’s message on Facebook is a great reminder of the loving care rescue animals have to offer their forever families.
