Senior couple receives rude note about their unpainted house but kindness prevails
Jimmy Curcuru’s home looks pretty rough around the edges.
This isn’t that big of a concern to the senior, who has medical expenses to pay for both him and his wife. As long as they’ve got a roof over their heads, the chipping paintwork can wait.
But some people care more about the outside of a home than they do about the folks living in it.
On his mailbox one day, Jimmy was greeted with a pretty crass and unwelcome note.
It simply read “Please paint me :( eyesore”, and yes, the sad face was intentionally added.
Jimmy was surprised that someone would be so bold as to leave a note like that – and without signing it, no less. Of course, with the sender being anonymous, Jimmy couldn’t exactly write back and explain his financial situation.
It couldn’t be one of his neighbors, Jimmy concluded.
He knew his neighbors just as well as they knew him. None of them were the type to do something so out of line. At the very least, they’d have the decency to own up to it.
Whoever this anonymous sender was, they weren’t technically wrong. They were just rash and insensitive. After all, you wouldn’t be wrong if you pointed out someone’s acne.
You’d just be proving yourself to be pretty rude.
His wife Marilyn was bedridden thanks to Multiple Sclerosis, and Jimmy himself had undergone heart surgery. Medical bills aren’t cheap, and the paint on their home was the least of their problems.
With his wife unable to leave the bed and Jimmy being of retirement age, there’s not exactly a practical way for him to rake in the funds for a home renovation and makeover.
What Jimmy didn’t count on was having more “neighbors” to help him out. Did someone say new house paint job?
One of those friendly neighbors that Jimmy mentioned started a GoFundMe. That online fundraising website that everyone turns to when they need help.
While the Gofundme started with one of his own neighbors, the attention quickly spread before long.
Before he knew it, Jimmy was getting about 50,000 dollars in donations from people around the world. Enough to fix his house’s weathering paint and internal structure. Everything from the roof to the windows.
Jimmy was a bit too old to work regularly and had to take care of his bedridden wife. Let’s just say, he’s got a lot on his platter.
I guess that person who sent the note got what they wanted, ironically.
Funnily, many of the donations also came from anonymous senders. What is it with people and keeping their identities from Jimmy? It’s not like he’s going to track you down and break into your house because you made fun of his.
But at least the gestures this time were kind and ended with Jimmy and Marilyn getting the help they needed. I guess the kind people in the world couldn’t stand to see them be treated like that.
