Stray dog finds injured, pregnant dog on the road and refuses to leave her side

When a car struck this pregnant dog, things were looking grim. Luckily, another dog was there to help her through the ordeal.

A stray German Shepherd dog tried to cross the highway. She didn’t see a car coming. The car shattered her elbow and leg.

The driver of the car didn’t stop, not caring about the poor animal.

The German Shepherd then dragged herself to the edge of the road, out of the way of any oncoming traffic, and collapsed.

Many, many cars drove by, but no driver stopped to assist the struggling animal.

But then another stray dog saw the German Shepherd and approached her. The dog could see that the German Shepherd was injured and stood by her side, hoping to protect her until she recovered.

Luckily, one of the passing cars noticed the stray dogs and called an animal rescue organization.

Pretty soon, some volunteers for Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue showed up on the scene. They loaded the strays into their car, taking extra care with the German Shepherd.

Things looked bad for the German Shepherd. She was breathing very deeply. But the volunteers were determined to get her to the vet, hoping she would pull through.

All through the drive, the other dog stayed by the German Shepherd’s side, hoping that the companionship would help her hang on to life.

Pretty soon, the vets were able to stabilize the German Shepherd’s condition. They put her legs in casts and checked for internal injuries.

It was then that the vets discovered that the German Shepherd was pregnant with no fewer than 10 puppies.

Luckily, the dog reacted well to the treatment. The vets decided to name her Marley. They also named the dog that had protected her Murphy.

Over the next few days, the two dogs remained in close company.

To everyone’s relief, Marley began to recover even more. Her leg injuries meant that she couldn’t walk just yet, but her health was definitely improving.

Soon, Marley was well enough to go into a foster home. Shortly after arriving, she gave birth to all of her puppies.

Amazingly, all 10 of the dogs were healthy. Over the coming days, the six boys and four girls learned to walk and open their eyes.

Pretty soon, the foster home was a whirlwind of activity, with Marley’s puppies keen to explore the world.

Murphy, on the other hand, had to stay in the shelter for a short while. But luckily, the story of him looking out for Marley endeared him to potential adopters.

Pretty soon, the rescue organization was able to find him the perfect forever home.

Marley’s puppies have since grown up and found their own families.

Marley was able to receive further medical treatment for her injuries and her own forever home. She shares this home with a friendly bulldog.

Marley will never forget the protection and support that Murphy offered.

If it weren’t for him, it’s possible that the people that called the rescuers would never have spotted Marley. But thanks to Murphy, she was able to get the help she needed before it was too late for her or her puppies.
