Michael Bublé and Barbra Streisand perform dreamy holiday version of classic song

Canadian crooner Michael Buble’s 4th annual “Christmas In New York” television special first aired in December of 2014, but through the magic of YouTube thousands of people can still view it at will any time. That year, it featured an array of (mostly human) female guests, including Ariana Grande, The Rockettes, and even Miss Piggy!

Starting out with holiday standards such as “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas” and “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” Bublé also performed an “unplugged” set chosen by his social media followers. Those included the classics “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and “Blue Christmas.”

But there was one performance that wasn’t technically a Christmas song – yet it’s one that’s been revisited over 8.8 million times on YouTube since 2014, partly because it featured a very special guest.

As Bublé introduced his guest, who he served up as a “gift” to viewers, he said:

“It’s not easy shopping for ten million people and I didn’t want to have to wrap ten million gifts either. I think I came up with something that’s perfect…”

As the camera panned over, he continued:

“Ladies and Gentlemen, for Christmas this year I give you the greatest there ever was, the greatest that is, and the greatest there ever will be. Please welcome, the one and only Miss Barbra Streisand.”

It wasn’t the first time the two had sung together. Their duet of “It Had To Be You – originally made famous by Billy Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennet – was also recorded for Streisand’s 2014 album Partners.

Standing on what looks like a frozen pond and surrounding by evergreens bedecked with twinkling holiday lights, the stage was set as a winter wonderland with the singers – he in a tux and her in a suit with a sequined jacket and tie – on opposite sides.

They did, indeed, change some of the lyrics to suit the holiday season, but they maintained the classic style and melody – and Bublé was thrilled to get to perform it live with such an icon.

“Besides the Fallon Show, she told me the last time she guested on a show like this was a little over 50 years ago,” he told The Daily Mail.

But Streisand sure wasn’t out of practice and both singers knocked it out of the park.

“What a coup for me to have Barbra, not just to get her, but to just, to have it be a complete blissful experience and both of us just making each other laugh and connecting together. There’s no bigger legend out there,” Bublé gushed.

Streisand seemed to be a fan favorite guest from the show that year and commenters showed their appreciation for her (as well as the duet):

“Nobody can sing like Barbra Streisand, Nobody. Michael has the sexiest voice. Together, they can make you melt,” said one.

It turns out the version on her album is closer to the classic when it comes to lyrics, so this is the perfect time of year to hear their more festive version if you haven’t already.
