Swing dancing couple leave entire crowd cheering with their award-winning moves
Rock That Swing Festival, or RTSF for short, is an international festival that happens every February in Munich. It lasts for five days and proudly presents some of the world’s best swing performances. Dancers from across the globe come to show their smooth moves – and the 14th edition of RTSF was definitely no exception!
The audience was delighted when Stephen and Chanzie stepped on the floor. They’ve been praised for making swing dancing seem effortless, but letâs take a look at their performance and see for ourselves.
Jazz became popular in the 1920s and has grown in prominence within the past two decades
Today, swing dance is becoming trendy again. The term swing includes several dancing styles: West Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, East Coast Swing, Hand Dancing, Jive, Rock and Roll, Modern Jive, et.
Festivals like Rock That Swing prove that a century later, swing dancing is still going strong.
The festival takes place at the Deutsches Theater in the city center of Munich and the KĂźnstlerhaus. It brings together dance instructors, professional dancers, special guests, and numerous bands.
Sounds like a party to us!
Rock That Swing Festival provides a combined stage for Boogie Woogie, Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Rockabilly Jive, and Authentic Jazz
In case you wanted to visit the event and take some dance classes, you can create your schedule and even combine various dances per class. Sounds interesting, doesnât it?

Stephen Sayer and Chandrae Roettig met in 2006, and they immediately felt connected through their mutual love for jazz music
In an interview with Summer Jamboree, Stephen said that he and Chanzie were friends for four years until they decided that they might as well start dancing together.
It made a lot of sense since they both were professional dancers and loved the same dancing styles. âThen a competition came up, and we said letâs do it, and then it went good, so we did more and more and more.â In 2011, the duo won first place at the National Jitterbug Championships and the US Open Strictly Lindy Hop divisions.
Chanzie started contemporary dancing at Dance Vision in Portland, Oregon, and Steve began dancing when he was 16 years old.
Both Sayer and Chanzie are dedicated to preserving the great American jazz dances of the 1920s – 1950s. Steve began dancing in 1998, and in 2012, he was inducted into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame.
One of their biggest projects is working on a major motion picture Gangster Squad.
Today, Steve and Chanzie teach dancing in North Hollywood.
In 2019, Stevie and Chanzieâs mesmerizing routine left everyone speechless
They sported interesting colors which attracted everyoneâs attention. Nobody could take their eyes off Chanzi’s burgundy skirt and Stevie’s forest green blazer.
Judging by their impressive dance moves, however, we think they’d be remembered even if they were wearing plain, black robes.
The video says it all: look at those twists and jumps all around the dance floor.
One of the viewers commented that the performance is âsmooth as glass,â adding that he doesnât know âhow anyone can watch this and not smile.â
The video has gotten almost 2 million views and it surely made us smile.
Keep rocking you two! Your dancing is so great to watch.
