Strangers take hard action when they seen teens harassing homeless woman
Between 1999 and 2015, homeless people suffered up to 1,657 incidents of violence against them. This rising tide of harmful behavior against homeless people is fueled by a rise in violence among young men. This prompted the team from ‘What Would You Do?’ to perform a social experiment.
A social experiment with bullying
Led by John Quiñones, from ABC News, the What Would You Do? team performs social experiments to see what exactly everyday people would do when put into certain situations. In this case, it was a homeless couple being bullied by some young men.
An actor and actress were hire for the role of a homeless couple being harassed by three young men as they walked by them on the sidewalk. The first people to witness the act of bullying were a mother and her two daughters who happened to be walking down the sidewalk at the same time.
First up, the experiment involves the male actor. And while the mother hesitates to intervene on the homeless man’s behalf, one of her daughters quickly steps in to defend him. She nicely tells the bullies to leave the homeless man alone. Soon, another lady joins in.
Before too long, Quiñones walks out, telling the ladies what is going on. He also asks why they intervened and their answers are beautiful.
The experiment almost turns violent
The next part of the social experiment results in two heavily-built men coming to the homeless man’s defense. It looks like these two men are ready to get physical if needed. Fortunately, things were not allowed to escalate too far.
Others who witnessed the act of bullying chose a more diplomatic route. In most cases, the bullies were at least lectured by the people who came across them while they tormented the homeless man.
Quiñones switches to the actress
Next up is the female actor. As one man walks by, he returns with food for her. As he begins to walk away, he hears the woman being bullied. He turns around and confronts the three bullies towering over him and the woman. This just goes to show that some people don’t care about size when it comes to bullies.
One woman threatens to call the police
Next up is a middle-aged woman who admonishes the bullies with a firm tone. She threatens to call the police and Quiñones has to step in before the situation gets out of hand.
Outnumbered
In the next encounter, a lady quickly steps in when she witnesses the bullying. She is soon joined by two other women, all of them ready to fight. They are soon joined by a fourth woman who wants in on the anti-bullying action. The bullies are now outnumbered four to three.
Stop bullying
All of this just goes to show how much people detest bullies in the U.S. If only more people took that mindset and put a stop to bullying when they see it.
