The thieves in this story learned an incredibly valuable lesson: never judge a book by its cover. And “learned” means they got their heads smashed in.

British women aged 75+ are made of tough stuff. Many of them have had to live through German bombings, IRA bombings and a range of other life-threatening incidents.

Naturally, this makes them much more resilient than they look.

If you ever doubt the toughness of the Great British grandma, then just consider Winifred Peel’s story. When she was 77 years old, she went to her town to have a relaxing day.

Three thugs spotted her at a cash machine and thought that she would be easy to rob.

So they approached her and tried to intimidate her.

One of the men ran up to the ATM screen and made it withdraw £200. The thief would never get his hands on the cash.

Winifred refused to give up the money. Instead, she looked at the three muscular young men surrounding her and saw red.

Imagining the thugs were Luftwaffe pilots, the grandmother started beating them. And beat them up she did.

In fact, Winifred was able to grab one of the thugs’ heads and proceeded to smash it against the cash machine no fewer than three times before he begged for her to stop.

Luckily, a police officer finally showed up to the scene to arrest/save the thugs. The criminals all ran off. The cop could tell that Winifred really didn’t need saving, but she thanked him anyway. Luckily, Winifred was able to see past her blood lust long enough to accurately describe the criminals. And the police were able to arrest them.

The thugs, whose names are Piper Dumitru, Florin Geblescu and Felix Stoica, all saw justice.

Stoica, the one who had his head bashed in by Winifred, was sentenced to two years of prison. The other two were sentenced to eight months in prison.

Hopefully, when the thugs get out of prison, they will have learned their lesson. They certainly won’t be targeting Winifred again any time soon!

The more you hear about this story, the more you realize that British grandmothers actually make the best bodyguards.

They’ve survived through the worst that humanity has to offer, are incredibly tough and make amazing cups of tea. That’s a win-win hiring decision if ever there was one!

And yes, there are many more incidents of British pensioners fighting off robbers. As recently as February 2020, a security camera caught another mugger being foiled by the muggee.

In this video, the robber, like the ones that targeted Winifred, tries to steal from an old man at an ATM. But the old man pushes back against the robber and throws in a bunch of punches. In the end, the robber has no choice but to retreat. Of course, the robber in that video was lucky. If he had targeted Winifred, he would have had his head smashed in.
