One of the best things about the existence of the internet is that it has answered so many “what if” questions. But some of those questions are just plain gross.

We’ve all spent time sitting around, pondering life’s deeper questions, such as “what would happen if a cat was the size of Godzilla?” or “what would the world be like if we used Lego to build everything?”

Some questions are unanswerable. But others are just a matter of patience. For instance, Nita Gill is a YouTuber whose passion is fruit and vegetable carving. She’s gained a loyal following on the video site for her beautiful creations. But one day, she decided to do something different.

Nita had always wondered what would happen if you left a watermelon for a period of one year before slicing it open.

Nita looked online and couldn’t find an answer. So she decided to do it herself. Luckily, she’d already bought a ripe watermelon from the store that had been left out for a while. Due to a series of events, it ended up sitting on the counter for too long. Instead of throwing the watermelon away, she decided to do something else. She did absolutely nothing with it for a year.

Instead, whenever her family wanted to throw it out, she told them “No!” That was her special one year watermelon. It couldn’t be touched until it reached its first birthday.

Nita’s family thought that she was crazy, but hey, everyone has their quirks, and after a while, they also thought it would be interesting to see what happened to it.

So on the melon’s first birthday, Nita started recording. First of all, she noted that the shape of the watermelon had changed significantly. It used to be almost perfectly circular. But now it had become uneven and lumpy. The skin had also developed a range of scars.

Amazingly, there were zero signs of mold on the melon up until a few days before its first birthday. Even then, the mold was confined to just a small spot on the melon’s surface. Lastly, the melon had become significantly lighter in its one year on the counter.

Then it came time for Nita to cut the melon open.

She got a huge knife, and the blade went through the fruit easily, splitting it in half.

Inside, the melon was almost entirely hollow. There were some dried up pink remnants of the edible parts, but no one would be eating them!

Also, the edges of the watermelon had turned from being red to orange. Nita remarked that it looked more like a pumpkin than a melon in places.

The fruit of the melon was “slimy,” according to Nita. She then told the watchers that this was something that they could have lived without. But now that they’ve watched it, they can’t unwatch it. Their morbid curiosity has been sated.

The video soon gained tens of thousands of views. To date, it has reached almost 70,000 views. It also has almost 650 likes and 100 comments. People have been saying things like this:

Clearly, some people have been repulsed by Nita, while others think that she’s done the world a great service. Where do you stand on this spectrum?
